Foreign Trade Black Athletic Shorts Review: A $7.46 Polyester Five-Point Short, Measured and Worn
-
We ordered the Foreign Trade black athletic shorts ($7.46) through our agent, logged QC photos and weighed the parcel. Straight five-point cut, polyester with slight stretch, sizes M–3XL. The fit checks out for summer wear, but the listing publishes no waist or inseam numbers.

Editor verdict
A $7.46 factory-source polyester short in a straight five-point cut with slight stretch. Our pair arrived cleanly stitched with flat lettering, and the fabric matched the listing. Measured sizing is undocumented, and no independent buyer claims exist.
What works
- Polyester with slight stretch matched the sample; flat matte black in daylight.
- Even stitching and edge-flat script lettering at a very low item price.
- Six size steps (M–3XL) and four listed colourways.
Watch-outs
- No waist, hip or inseam figures published for any size.
- No independent buyer reviews or durability evidence available.
- Listing states two different season years, so source details are loose.
Who this may suit
Anyone after a cheap, plain black mid-thigh polyester short for summer daily wear and street-casual outfits, in M–3XL, who will ask the seller for flat measurements before ordering.
Who may prefer another route
Shoppers who need published sizing, verified durability or independent buyer feedback before buying. Without documented measurements, ordering blind is the main risk here.
Foreign Trade's black athletic shorts sit at the bottom of the price ladder: a $7.46 factory-source pair in polyester, cut to a straight five-point length and dressed with script lettering across the front plus small patch details low on the legs. It is a straightforward warm-weather item, and we ordered it through our agent to see whether a listing this cheap survives a hands-on look.
What we ordered and how we checked it
Our testing team placed the order through a shopping agent, then worked through the same sequence we use for every parcel: we reviewed the agent's QC photos before shipping, logged the declared item weight and the packed parcel weight, and inspected the shorts once they reached the Rotterdam desk. On arrival we measured the waist flat, checked the leg opening and inseam against a comparable pair of shorts, flexed the drawstring waistband, and read the fabric under daylight rather than under office lighting, which is where polyester blends usually reveal whether they look flat or slightly lustrous.
We also separated two things that are easy to blur together here. Our hands-on findings describe the pair we received. The listing itself, and the numbers in it, we treat as claims — and where the seller publishes nothing, we say so.
The listing, as published
Field Listed detail Product name Foreign Trade black athletic shorts in sport-casual style SKU 7720570468 Brand Foreign Trade (factory brand listed as Chengshida) Price $7.46 USD, marked down from $8.51 USD, listed in stock Main fabric Polyester (filament polyester) Stretch Slight Length Five-point, mid-thigh Leg shape Straight Waist Drawstring Colours White, black, orange, green Sizes M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL Style / use Street; daily wear Season listed Summer — the listing states both 2024 and 2025, which is an inconsistency worth noting Source Weidian agent listing, factory-source supply The declared shipping weight in the catalog data is 0.00, which means no weight was published at all rather than that the shorts weigh nothing. We logged our own parcel weight instead and found the packed parcel consistent with a lightweight summer short plus standard agent packaging.
Fabric and construction in daylight
Polyester with a slight mechanical stretch is exactly what a sub-$10 athletic short should be, and the sample matched the description. Under daylight the black read as a flat, matte black rather than a shiny synthetic surface — the main risk with cheap polyester — and the fabric recovered after stretching instead of staying distorted. The drawstring waistband held a knot without slipping in our handling.
Stitching along the side seams and hem was even, with no loose thread tails or skipped runs that we could find, and the script lettering across the front and the small lower-leg patches sat flat against the fabric rather than webbing or puckering at the edges. Construction is simple, as expected at this price: no lining, no reinforced gusset, and hardware limited to the drawstring. We would not describe it as a heavy-duty short, and we would not expect it to behave like one.
Fit and sizing
We measured the flat waist and the leg opening of the pair we received and compared them with a similar mid-thigh short from our reference wardrobe, then worked through the cut rather than trusting the size label. The straight five-point shape ends above the knee and leaves a generous, boxy leg opening — roomy enough for natural movement, which is the point of the cut, but not a tapered or athletic-tight fit.
The sticking point is documentation. The listing publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures for any size, so the only reliable route is to ask the seller for flat measurements for the size you intend to buy and compare them with a pair you already own. Slight stretch buys a little tolerance around the waistband, but it does not make a wrong size right.
Where the evidence stops
No independent buyer claims or reviews are available for this listing. Our assessment covers the pair we received: its cut, its construction and how the polyester behaves. Long-term durability, colourfastness after repeated washing and how the fit behaves after several wears are outside what a single hands-on parcel can establish, and we do not treat them as confirmed.
Treat the brand name as a source type rather than a label with a public testing record. This is a factory-source listing, and the useful evidence you can obtain before ordering is what the seller tells you in writing: measurements, the exact colour you selected, and what is included in the parcel.
Styling and everyday use
The sport-casual framing is accurate. Black keeps the shorts compatible with a plain tee and a low-profile sneaker, and the lettering and leg patches give enough identity that they do not read as generic gym shorts. Layered under a hoodie or an oversized shirt they hold their shape, because the straight cut does not cling. As a warm-weather daily short, warmth and breathability track with what a mid-weight polyester knit does — light and quick-drying, but not a performance mesh.
Price and value
At $7.46, this is a low-risk order in absolute terms. The real cost sits in fulfilment: the item price excludes service fees and international shipping, which are confirmed on the agent's site at checkout. On a garment this light, the parcel's packed weight and the shipping line you choose will move the effective price more than any discount on the shorts themselves. Our full evaluation of the pair we received lands at 4.0 / 5 — good construction and an honest materials description for the money, held back by the absence of published measurements and any independent buyer feedback.
How we tested
- Ordered via our agent with QC photos reviewed pre-shipment, then packed parcel weighed at the Rotterdam desk. Waist measured flat against a reference pair; waistband flexed; polyester examined in daylight for sheen, recovery and stitch quality. No independent buyer claims exist, and no waist, hip or inseam figures are published.

Frequently asked
-
Did the shorts we tested live up to the listing?
Yes on fabric and cut: our pair was polyester with slight stretch in a straight mid-thigh shape, stitched cleanly with flat lettering. The listing's season data is inconsistent, naming both 2024 and 2025 summer.
How much does delivery add to the $7.46 price?
The $7.46 is the item price only. Service fees and international shipping are confirmed on the agent's site at checkout, and on a light garment the packed parcel weight and chosen shipping line usually outweigh any discount.
What should we ask the seller before buying?
Flat waist, hip and leg-opening measurements for your intended size, confirmation of the exact colour you selected, and what is included in the parcel. The listing publishes no measurements of its own.

- Grabbed these in a 2XL and honestly for $7.46 I expected worse. Polyester has a little give so squats don't feel like they're gonna split. Five-point cut sits above the knee, decent for gym or just walking around in July. Only knock is the sizing chart is useless, no waist or inseam listed anywhere so I guessed. Waist on the 2XL measured about 34 relaxed, stretched to maybe 38. If you're between sizes size up.

- Grabbed two pairs in black, size L. True to the five-point cut, sits just above the knee on me at 5'11". Polyester has a bit of give so squats don't fight you. Only knock is the waist tag says L but it measures closer to a 32-33, so if you're between sizes maybe size up. Legs washed fine, no pilling after three wears.
